January 8 - March 11

In Time Magazine’s March 2007 cover article: The Case for Teaching the Bible, leading scholars made the argument that you really cannot understand the history and culture of our country without recognizing the formative impact the great stories of the Bible had in shaping every aspect of American life, literature and even film. This winter (January-March) at Damascus Road Community we are going to remember or discover anew God’s Grand Story in the Great Stories of the Bible. Join us on a journey into the God-adventures of real people whose stories helped shape the world around you. Begin your New Year in the company of greatness.

Between a Rock and a Hard Place:
Moses and Pharaoh’s Army (Exodus 14)

March 4
Failure from Success:
David’s Lust (2 Samuel 11-12)
Senior Pastor Richard Fredericks Ph. D.

Question: How do giants of faith become midgets?
Application: The greatest problem for God is not our problems, but how we handle success.
March 11
Who is your God?
Elijah’s Courage (I Kings 18)
Senior Pastor Richard Fredericks Ph. D.

Question: What’s wrong with hedging our bets on God’s faithfulness by also dancing to the world’s beat?

Who Matters to God?
Ruth’s Redemption
Executive Pastor Rajendra Pillai

In a defining moment, Ruth proclaims these unforgettable words, “Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.” God often uses ordinary people, who are committed to Him, in extraordinary ways to change the world. Come this Sunday as we talk about the remarkable story of the faithfulness of a woman, the kindness of a man, and a story of steadfast love.

Your Story Isn’t Over Yet
Jonah’s Despair
Executive Pastor Rajendra Pillai

We all have seasons. And there are times when we, like Jonah, cry out to God in the midst of utter despair. The Bible assures us “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” We’ll take a look at the remarkable story of Jonah and gain a fresh perspective about re-orienting our eyes on Jesus, even in the midst of despair.
