Worship Arts Ministry

Worship Arts

Every revival of the Protestant Reformation has been marked by the introduction of hymns, psalms and spiritual songs contemporary to their day.  For that reason the Damascus Road Community Church, from its inception, embraced the contemporary Christian music explosion which has become a world-wide phenomenon.

The vitality of our modern day revival is reflected in the passion and energy of the music it has birthed.  While many hymns of our Protestant heritage expressed the truths of the Bible and sang about the God we worship, many contemporary songs are an expression of our love to God.  Today's music is a "both this and this" style of praise: we singing about God and the Gospel we embrace, and we often sing energetically to Him.  This is a bold fulfillment of the psalmist David who encourages worshippers to "shout for joy to the Lord!"

Many contemporary songs are energetic, fast-paced and more intense than many hymns of the past.  If the volume of our music ever seems uncomfortable, we can recommend places in our auditorium where volume is decreased.  Also, upon request, sound-softening earplugs can be provided.  Our sound engineers continually seek to improve our quality to achieve a sound that is not shrill, harsh or high-decibel, but rich and engaging.

The ministry of music in a growing, diverse, multi-generational church always faces the challenge of many musical tastes and styles.  At Damascus Road Community Church, our music seeks to honor the past and embrace the present.  Our goal is congregational participation as we experience together the presence of the living God, and prepare our hearts to hear the Word of God.  So, "let us enter His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise!" (Psalm 100)

Adult Worship Teams

The worship teams at Damascus Road Community Church seek to glorify God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit through music, connect non-believers to the Gospel and ministry of Jesus, encourage spiritual growth in those who believe, and serve His church by leading worship services each week.

Our musicians are teams of volunteers who are called, skilled, and anointed to serve. The team commitment level is between five and 10 hours per week, which includes time of personal preparation. Rehearsals are held weekly on Thursday evenings.

Members of the congregation who want to join the team are evaluated based upon skill, chemistry, and availability. Auditions are required to join (see “
How to Join Adult Worship” sidebar).

Choir Opportunities

General choir opportunities are available several times a year at special services. Members of the congregation may participate without audition, although soloists are selected by the choir leader.

Tech Team

There are many areas on the technical side to get involved--sound engineer, engineer assistant, media operator, stage set-up, and video operator.  Our teams of skilled volunteers serve on a monthly basis, with a personal time commitment between five and 10 hours per week.
