Weekly Update from the Senior Pastor
January 18, 2006
Dear Friends and Family,
We thought you’d like to hear Richard’s impressions from mid-way through his first mission trip to a third world country. In addition to what he writes below, the pre-trip team would like you to know that they are all healthy, plans for the June/July trips are shaping up well and they appreciate all your prayers.
“Just a quick message, we are late for supper and the keyboard is weird.
The trip has been wonderful and amazing in terms of the heart of the people touching my heart. We have been to many of the projects we have done down here I saw the home built for the plastic home people, and the home of the family with seven children who lived in the forest until Robby Watkins and Woody Pangborn (legends in their own time) built a beautiful three room house.
We are heading back to Motiño's now. He is a fine brother in the Lord. Bob Fournier is up in Las Mesas doing evangelism and planning. I was released today for a few hours to see the Copan Ruins with a guide who worked with the University of Penn archeological teams and the Germans (six languages and a treasure trove of facts--like an intensive in Mayan religion.)
As with everyone though, the real story is the firsthand realization of the beauty of the people, the great need and how much so little can do, while being careful to preserve the dignity of the people--who teach us much (typical Roger-type stuff).
Please tell the whole team I loved the going away pics--I feel so secure knowing such dedicated minds and hearts are watching over everything while we are here.
Mucho grande amor to you all. Ricardo”
The team returns late Thursday evening and then on Friday, Richard will begin writing his message for this Sunday – the first in a series entitled “The Names of God”. His message this week is “The Power of a Name.” Please join us!
Also, remember that reservations for the Sweetheart Dinner are still being accepted this Sunday (but not for much longer!) The cost per couple for the evening is $75 – the memories are priceless.
Blessings –
The staff
