Weekly Update from the Senior Pastor
May 19, 2006
Dear Family and Friends,
We’re claiming 70 acres for the Kingdom of God this Sunday!
Together we’ll take the first key step toward building a “Light” House on a hill—our future congregational “Home of Light” for equipping our homes of light to push back the darkness across our region.
Sunday is DAY ONE: our first step together on the land.
Wherever God takes us in the future will trace back to this day of dedication and action.
You are the pioneers pushing out on this new stage of our journey.
We’ll commemorate this moment by building a simple monument on a knoll that will someday become a beautiful prayer garden. The stones and markers will be there. Your mission as single adults, as couples, as families, is to put your name[s] and a word or short phrase that stands for a prayer of commitment, a promise from Scripture, a dream for your future in Christ. Your stone will be on this land till Jesus comes.
Last Wednesday the very first thing that rose heavenward on our land was a simple wooden Cross built by my 80-year old pappy! J. It was so appropriate to begin with the Cross, for:
“God forbid that we should ever glory or boast in anything—save the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ through which the wickedness of the world has been crucified to us; and we have been crucified to that wickedness.” [Galatians 6:14]; “For the message of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” [1 Corinthians1:18].
This Sunday you will lay your stone of commitment at the foot of the Cross—and God will both honor and be honored in that act. If it’s cloudy or sprinkling, bring an umbrella! But come. See you Sunday.
In the Lamb,
Richard
