Weekly Update from the Senior Pastor
October 3 , 2007
Dear Family and Friends,
Sunday, September 30 was a day of births—of new beginnings.
Sunday afternoon in a beautiful backyard pool six people were baptized into the Lordship and salvation of Jesus: Victor and Katelyn Gonzalez, Matthew Gaither, Valerie Rahmer, Kim Moore and Lori Henderson.
Sunday evening Epicenter was birthed and what a coming-out party that was!
Roger Record and four other youth pastors had prayed for this evening, from conception to delivery, that it would be an event that would break down congregational walls and bring teens together in the name of Jesus, around the call of Acts 4:31: “And when they had prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the Word of God boldly.”
The response to those prayers was 300 teens in Oakdale Middle School auditorium huddled up in group prayer, asking God to give them boldness for Jesus in their schools. Join them in your times of prayer during our 40 day journey—let’s all ask God to help us to speak of the name and power of Jesus boldly.
- This evening at 6:45 tonight come gather at the foot of the Cross on our land for a shared “hour of prayer,” thanking God for who He is, asking Him to help us be the Light on a Hill He wants us to be, and building a light on a hill home for our ministries. George Muller (recognized as one of the greatest men of prayer known to history) wrote about discerning God’s will: I seek at the beginning to get my heart into such a state that it has no will of its own in regard to the matter. Nine tenths of the trouble with people generally is just here. Nine-tenths of the difficulties are overcome when our hearts are ready to do the Lord’s will, whatever it may be. When one is truly in this state, it is usually but a little way to the knowledge of what His will is.
- Start planning now for our ten-year birthday celebrations, November 4 and 11. We will look back and honor the God-moments of ten years (November 4). Then we will look forward (November 11), stepping into our mission as Light-bearers, walking through a virtual tour of our future facility, then sharing a great mealtime together.
Always remember the core command of our new life in Christ:
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this will all men know you are My disciples, by the love you have for one another. John 13:34-35.
Your brother,
Richard
