Weekly Update from Damascus Road Community Church
March 6 , 2008

Dear Family and Friends,
Seventeen days till Easter.
Seventeen days x 24 hours = opportunity.
You have the opportunity to Walk into Holy Week with the Lord Jesus. Your call.
This past Sunday there were three Easter “asks” at the front-end of the message, actually three gifts to yourself and three ways to honor God:
- Walk with Jesus to/through Holy Week using the Walking through Holy Week INSERT. If you need another one or didn’t get one, simply click on the Walking through Holy Week INSERT link and download a copy. It covers eight days (Easter Sunday is the eighth [8 is the number of new beginnings in Scripture]). Read one or two of the Bible passages listed at the end of each day’s paragraph, and by Easter you will have walked with Jesus in all four Gospels. Do this. It will ‘right-size’ your life.
- Watch with prayer the film: The Passion. It is NOT entertaining—it is gut-wrenching and, believe me, it has a glorious ending. There are at least five scenes in that film, starting with Jesus crushing the serpent’s head in the garden, which are burned into my soul forever. Watch it.
- Ask a friend or a family to join you on Easter. There are people all around you: CEO’s [Christmas and Easter only], and folks who are waiting to be invited in for the first time. Give them the gift of coming on the arm of a friend to hear the dangerous and life-changing message of Jesus. Pray on this, then be bold.
Quick UPDATES:
- TONIGHT: 7:00 p.m. FIRESIDE CHAT about our future facility at Michelle and Jerry Rader’s home (they have moved recently to 1901 Sterling Glen Way in Mt. Airy. If you have never experienced the vision-casting of a Fireside Chat, join us tonight.
- TIME CHANGE this Sunday: In the wee hours of Sunday morning our clocks need to “spring forward,” which means an hour less sleep between bedtime and morningL. Plan ahead and don’t be late—Sunday is a strong focus on our future.
- LAST WEEK WAS A GREAT $135 = ONE SQUARE FOOT WEEK! We received about $10,400 which means another 77 square feet built. I love it. Ring-bearers, keep on! Remember the promise made to David’s ring-bearers: “Be strong and courageous and do the work. Do not be afraid. For the Lord God, my God, is with you.”
- BAPTISM: After last month’s baptism at Youth Church, we are planning a baptism in April for five adults (somewhere other than that tiny tank!) Baptism is the significant step of obeying, receiving and confessing Jesus as Lord when you step into His salvation. Contact Sallie, Roger, Rajendra or me this Sunday if you know this is a God-calling on your life.
I hope to see many of you tonight at Jerry and Michelle’s—and all of you Sunday. Let’s walk this sacred walk to Jesus’ cross and resurrection with much prayer and growing boldness.
Love ya,
Richard
