Weekly Update from Damascus Road Community Church

Richard

Dear Family and Friends,

Change occurs where there is urgency.  Good intentions float by daily.

We push past the inertia of busy, embedded routines by committing to a clear goal with a clear timeline.  Otherwise action is deferred; important things give way to the urgent as we drift—living busy lives of quiet desperation.

Effective high performance people challenge drift daily.  God’s champion of grace in Christ, the apostle Paul, said: “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward my goal…” (Philippians 3:13-14).

In all of history, no greater example of urgency toward a meaningful goal exists than Jesus during this Holy Week.  He knew exactly what His timeline was and exactly what His goal was—to die truly alone as the sin-bearer for humanity so that no other person ever need die such a death.  There was no inertia in this week for Jesus, every act or word was intentional.  He turns to us and says: ‘Follow Me.’   This Easter, here are two clear action steps with two clear timelines.

First, a message from our lead elder, Paul, about this Friday:

It was 16 years ago a group of men began to meet just before 3 p.m. on Good Friday (the day and hour Jesus died) to remember together the cost of our Salvation. Two years ago we expanded the circle to include the entire church. As is our custom we are going to meet again this year on our land at the Cross. If you are drawn to interrupt your busy lives and gather with us on the 21st here is what you need to know:

  • WHERE:  At the cross on our church property
  • WHAT TO BRING:   An open and soft heart, your Bible and friends or family
  • WHEN TO COME:   Arrive at 2:30 p.m.  Remember this is a solemn assembly – no talking, be quiet as you park and walk to the cross.  We will leave by 3:15 p.m. in the same way we came.
  • WHAT WE’LL DO:  We will walk through the scriptures to the cross; We will hear Christ’s final words before His death; We will mourn! Then we will leave with hope—because Sunday’s coming!!

Second:  Easter morning

  • WHERE: Damascus High School auditorium
  • WHAT TO BRING:   A friend to share your encounter with the risen Jesus, alive and present now.  Come expectant: anticipate God showing up to meet with you as you enter into His presence.  Enter the auditorium with a prayer of gratitude for so great a salvation.
  • WHEN TO COME:  Be in the auditorium (not just foyer) at 10:25 a.m.  Pray for openness to God’s Spirit.
  • WHAT WE’LL DO:  Receive through multiple venues the truth of God’s victory in Jesus Christ; then respond with a personal step of deeper trust in this trustworthy God.
