Weekly Update from Damascus Road Community Church

April 3 , 2008
Richard

Dear Family and Friends,

It’s Wednesday.  Inside your head, are you livin’ in the RED?

Should be a U-2 lyric!  Okay, maybe not.  Anyway, step one: are you reading the RED?  Do you know there is a party planned and you are invited (Matthew 22:1-14)?

There are more words of Jesus in Matthew than in any other Gospel.

Last Sunday we identified God’s Kingdom as the big theme anchoring Matthew’s picture of Jesus.  Translation: Jesus came to set up a very different type of life in terms of allegiance/perspective/focus; and if you want to understand His principles for living that life: Matthew is your guy.

If you want a shorter, tighter perspective on Jesus’ power and authority with less parables and teachings (more emphasis on action), Mark is your man.  In the first eleven verses of his Gospel-account, Mark covered as much of Jesus’ life as Matthew and Luke take four chapters to cover.

Take your next step toward a big picture understanding of living the RED this Sunday as we understand the context and focus on the RED words of Jesus in Mark’s Gospel.

Quick Updates:

Double Feast: Thank you Debbie Ellington and team for helping us experience the Lord’s Supper in a new way. Thanks Da’Nita and teams for a great fellowship time lunch last Sunday, especially those wonderful young “Italian” waitresses.

Last week = another 55 square feet ($6,930) was funded, and we met budget.  Thanks to everyone living in God’s ownership by your stewardship…plus genuine sacrifice in this stretch.   Let’s go for some 200 square foot weeks, catching up to, or stepping into, our pledges for our Light on a Hill.

Baptisms: a week from Sunday, April 20 at 3:00 p.m. at Tri-County Baptist Church (7812 Damascus Road.)  Eight people committing to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  Roger, Rajendra or Richard would love to talk with you about what this commitment of your life to Jesus Christ means.  I can meet you at the Connections Center after our service, right by the Lighthouse and virtual tour of the future facility.

Key Events: Keep May 4 and June 1 open, and be in town.  We’ll be the Church to our community on May 4 from 2- 5 pm at our annual Haven Good News special-needs ministry fair at the Mt. Airy fairgrounds; and on our land for worship at 10:30 am Sunday, June 1 to plan for building our church facility..

The Hundred-Man Choir is coming.  If every man, young and old, commits their voice of praise, we could turn this into the three-hundred man choir.  Get your pre-practice packet at the men’s ministry table in the foyer of DHS right after this week’s service.

Who are you praying for right now who needs to step from death apart from Jesus into life eternal?  Who matters that much to you that you are praying for words and planning your opportunity?   Where are you living as a peace-MAKER?  Let your light shine.  Your Father loves it.  Richard
