Weekly Update from Damascus Road Community Church

April 30, 2008 Richard

Dear Family and Friends,

When your life is over, your closest friends will sum up what mattered most to you in one sentence. You can choose now what that sentence will be. You really should write out that sentence.

What do you want your legacy to be when you meet God?  In the memory of those who knew you best?

Put it in one sentence. Pray over it. Does it honor God, use your God-given gifts, impact your loved ones for eternity?  If you had 30 days left to live, how would your summary sentence sound to you?

To live the RED (Jesus’ Words), John’s Gospel points you to all-in trust.  Remember your RED-letter homework.

It was to memorize three, simple seven-word phrases:

  1. Do not let your heart be troubled.  (John 14:1)
  2. Trust in God, trust also in Me. (John 14:1)
  3. And the man took Jesus at His WORD. (John 4:50)

Life has troubles.  We must grieve loss, and process painful changes.  But Jesus keeps calling us beyond a troubled heart to joyful trust—because His life-giving Word is in us, and we take Jesus at His WORD

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN:

Last week another $14,950 came in for our Light on a Hill new home.

At $135 p.s.f. that equals another 111 square feet

We reach our goal staying faithful and sacrificial.  Let’s keep stepping up: if a challenge is from God, it is bigger than us. So God works through us, providing where He is guiding.  Our April total was $54,540 = another 404 square feet. Our Campaign total giving is $1,270,000 or 9407 square feet paid for.  Sunday, June 29 (60 days away) is our half way point in this building campaign and half our goal is $1,550,000.  Here’s the deal.  That kind of miracle happens through us, not around us.  Stay faithful in tithe—and be God’s channel sacrificially in this campaign.  If you haven’t been all-in, dive in.  If you’ve pledged, keep being bold for the Lord = you can’t out-give Him.  Be a part of the miracle.

ANNUAL HAVEN GOOD NEWS [ALL-CHURCH] EVENT for serving special needs families:

This Sunday, after our worship service, from 2:00-5:00 p.m., we will enjoy having friends and being friends, investing in new friends and knowing we are at a God-event, with Kingdom opportunities all around us.  If you have children in your family, this is a double treat..  THANK YOU church family for stepping up to serve at this event—well over a hundred volunteers, with room for more.  CT and Edie, our Haven directors, are thrilled.  Now PRAY that the Holy Spirit will encourage families with special needs members to make the effort, test the waters, believe this is a place where people care and check us out.  PRAY that we can be real, vulnerable, available and full of love.  PRAY for lots of God-moments.

JUNE 1 ON THE LAND:

Don’t forget in the rush of early summer to reserve or reclaim June 1 (Sunday) for our next special worship gathering on our own land.  There is a lot to do between now and then in preparing the land.  If you want a piece of that land-prep action, contact Elder Eric Closs or Trustee Ralph Wolfe.
