Garden Soil

“Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.

Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said,

rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

By this he meant the Spirit,

whom those who believed in him were later to receive.

~ John 7:37-39

3 RESOLUTIONS YOU WILL NOT REGRET

January is the month when many of us make New Year’s resolutions. Research shows that within weeks, most of us give up and only 19% stick to their original resolutions as we get caught up in the busyness of life or get plain distracted. Change is hard, but a new year offers us a new opportunity to live the flourishing life Jesus promised us. After the last two years, a fresh start has never been so welcome!

What if our entire church community made some resolutions together for a new beginning and we helped each other live them out? Things that would make us live out what Jesus said was most important – loving God and loving people (remember, the overarching goal is to love God and love people – see Matthew 22:34-40).

Anne Lamott writes in her book, Bird by Bird, “The Gulf Stream will flow through a straw provided the straw is aligned to the Gulf Stream.”

How can we live a flourishing, full, abundant lives in 2022? How can we become men and women who have this life-giving water flowing in and out of them?

Align the straw of your heart to the Gulf Stream of the Holy Spirit!

2.CHURCH BEFORE OTHER THINGS ON THE WEEKEND

The Gospel was never meant to be lived out as an individual. It was given, and it was for, and it was meant to be lived out as a community. Sin divides us. The gospel unites us. The gospel pulls us into community.

After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.

They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice:

“Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne,

and to the Lamb.”

~ Revelation 7:9-10

When we come to church and when we worship and when we hear the Word being proclaimed, we center ourselves around the throne of our God. Our minds are cleared, our understanding come into focus, our spirits are replenished. The straw of our hearts get aligned with the Gulf Stream of the Holy Spirit. This year, make church a priority on weekends. You will not make it alone. We need each other. If you miss it for any reason, you can watch it online on our app, our website or on YouTube.
