The prayer of Jesus was that we would pray for heaven to come down to earth and God’s will be done. So, we desire to bring the hope, love and joy of Jesus to every corner of the planet through Mission India, as with all our DRCC outreach efforts. We do this by working collaboratively with local leaders, building mutual trust and accountability and getting our hands dirty alongside our local partners.
India is one of a handful of countries where leprosy is still prevalent. India has the highest rate of leprosy in the world with nearly 150,000 reported cases, and most cases are not even reported. This dreadful and debilitating disease carries with it an enormous social and religious stigma. Leprosy is fully curable in the early stages, but fear forces people to deny or hide their leprosy symptoms until the signs are obvious.
Lepers are driven out of their communities and must find a “Leper Colony” in order to live out the rest of their pitiless existence. The extended families are all ostracized as well. Jesus commanded his disciples in Matthew 10:8 to “heal the sick, cleanse the lepers…”
In 2007, a team from our church visited the wilderness in a remote part of India where the lepers are banished. We helped purchase land and build a building. That expanded to several buildings. A school was built in 2010 for the children of lepers. This facility now houses 125 children and 53 adults.
In January of 2016, our team visited the same wilderness and it is now a place of hope, light, joy and pride. The lepers made an ask of our team - they would like us to build them a church! They have daily morning and evening devotions in a dorm room. For in this new found hope, they have also found love and devotion in the Lord and among themselves.
The cost of this chapel is going to be $21,000. Our team agreed to take it on. All donations marked for this, every last cent will go toward the building of this chapel for lepers, which will be a light to many for years to come.
Our goal is to raise $21,000 to build a chapel for the Ashroi lepers.
Proposed location for the Ashroi Chapel. All donations marked for this will go directly toward its construction.
Ashroi is a leper community of hope and refuge. Worship is filled with light, joy and pride.

We helped found a church in Calcutta, and support the local pastor who oversees the various ministries in the area: several church plants, micro-businesses, a small agricultural farm, two schools for street children, and a rickshawpuller's church. As well, this congregation is very active in social ministries and poverty alleviation. And hundreds have come to know Jesus! We are in the process of helping this church find a permanent base.
In an impoverished section of this tourist town, there exists a sprawling, underprivileged fishermen's village. Several men have lost their lives in this highly dangerous occupation, leaving their children in the care of poor relatives. We helped start a Dream Center orphanage to house these precious kids and currently have over 80 children who receive education, meals and a safe and warm place to live.
Wild untamed elephants! Three hundred of them were spotted two weeks before we arrived at this remote village in India in 2007. As our team drove through the forests of Orissa, we saw the elephant tracks. In the midst of this wild land, as we drove around a bend, we saw a huge 7000 square feet Dream Center orphanage rising out of the earth. Almost 400 kids now receive education, food, clothing, and learn about Jesus in this building.
Leprosy… it is a death sentence in the lives of many people in Orissa (India is one of a handful of countries where leprosy is still prevalent). These people are thrown out of their homes and villages and are completely abandoned. Partnering with an NGO, Good News India, we have helped build a permanent home for them. But there are still plenty of needs, including ongoing support.
We belong to Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. And He invites us to belong to a community of faith. Whether a lifetime Christian, a new believer or just curious about the faith, you are welcome here at Damascus Road Community Church. Understand what we believe, who makes up our leadership team and the pathway to membership.
In a larger church it can be a challenge to feel personally connected. Allow us to help you. Whether searching for calendar information, a larger event in which to get a better taste of DRCC, a smaller group to be a part of, or personal care for the struggles and celebrations of life… this is a good place to start.
Grow in biblical knowledge and spiritual wisdom. Know what you believe and how to apply it to your everyday life. Sink deep roots into God’s Word through our ministries, classes or sermon library resources, and be better equipped to give an answer for your faith, discern truth and weather the storms of life.
As Christ gave his life for us, so also we give back to our local community of faith a portion of our time, talent and treasure. In so doing we release the grip of selfishness and idolatry in our lives. And our brothers and sisters receive the encouragement they need to carry on.
Beyond our home, school and workplace, Damascus Road Community Church offers opportunities to go near and far in sharing the Good News of Christ through tangible acts of service. Our missions’ teams partner with established churches and pastors to spread the Gospel, nurture long-term relationships and build sustainable solutions to address needs for today and into the future.
