Parent Workshop: Social Media Safety
Updated: Mar 6

On Thursday, February 25th, we were joined by local expert, Joe Dugan, of the Maryland State Police "Internet Crimes Against Children Maryland Task Force." Joe was a police officer for 37 years. He retired from the Baltimore City Police as a Homicide Detective in 1996 and then took a job with the Harford County Sheriff's Office. Joe worked as a Crimes Against Children Detective during his last eight years at the Sheriff's Office. He now works for the Maryland State Police as an Internet Safety Specialist.
As Joe spoke with us, he discussed how to keep our children safe and how to make them aware of the dangers while on the internet. He also shared with us ways to keep our children safe as they navigate through popular Social Media Apps and the signs to look for if they are being targeted by an online predator. The parents who were in attendance left the workshop with newly gained insight on the signs to look for if their child is being groomed or targeted by an online predator.
