summer plans in children's ministry

Updated: May 15

It's hard to believe we have not been able to gather together as a church since the weekend of March 7th and 8th! We miss seeing everyone and are grateful for the online worship services and Kids Church at Home experiences.

DRCC is paying close attention to Governor Hogan's re-opening plan to determine when we can resume our in-person gatherings. We will keep you posted!

In the meantime, we wanted to send out an update to Children's Ministry volunteers and families about this summer. In the past, DRCC has recruited new volunteers for the months of July and August to give its regular Children's Ministry volunteers a break. However, this year we are asking our regular volunteers to serve on their normal weekends during the months of July and August. There are three primary reasons for this:

1. Typically, Summer Serve gives our regular volunteers a 8 or 9 week break. However, we anticipate being out of church at least through the end of June, which will enable our regular volunteers to enjoy a minimum of a 16 week break.

2. We won't have time to recruit new volunteers for this summer since we are not sure when we'll back in church (Summer Serve recruiting usually begins right after Easter)

3. The regular volunteers are missing their DRCC kids a lot!

What does this mean for Children's Ministry volunteers serving in the 2019-2020 ministry year? Whatever weekends you were normally on the schedule for from September through February would be the same weekends you would serve in July and August. Of course, there is flexibility in switching weekends with other volunteers. And the Children's Ministry staff is looking at ways of mixing things up a bit in the summer, including outdoor rec time, worship time, and bible lessons that don't require advanced preparation. It promises to be a fun, easy, and meaningful summer for all!

What else is being planned for the summer?

We miss seeing everyone at church and can't wait to be back together! In the meantime, we are excited about continuing some of the virtual experiences mentioned above. If you need anything or have any prayer requests, please don't hesitate to email us at childrensministry@damascus.com. Keep the faith and stay safe!

With much love,

The DRCC Children's Ministry Staff
